Woolpile Creates an Effective Barrier

Woolpile from Central Extrusions is designed for use on many of the leading aluminium glazing or uPVC glazing systems in use today. Woolpile, which is sometimes called brush pile or weatherstripping, provides an effective barrier to air, water, dust and noise in doors and windows. The fibres in the woolpile are perfect for creating a seal between different or uneven surfaces.

Woolpile is typically used on secondary glazing (which is the addition of a second window to an existing window), aluminium windows and doors, sliding windows and patio doors. The pile should give a good seal when the door or window is shut but allow it to open easily.

Excellent Range of Woolpile Available

Our pile comes in varying depths and widths. Central Extrusions has a range available in the following base sizes; 4.8mm, 5.1mm, 6.7mm, 6.9mm, 11mm, 16mm and 18mm. Our pile is available in a range of colours and heights as well as fin or non-fin versions. This gives our customers an excellent range of choice and we have options to fit all the popular systems.

Woolpile Stops Dust & Reduces Noise

Woolpile is designed to eliminate dust, reduce noise, keep out rain, cope with varying temperatures and the friction associated with opening and closing doors and windows. It is very durable but it does have a lifespan so will need to be replaced when it becomes less effective.

Although woolpile is hard-wearing and durable it can need replacing over time. It starts to lose its spring and the seal becomes less effective. You may notice that the brush pile on the bottom of a sliding door has become misshapen and distorted. This is when you should consider replacing the woolpile on the unit – particularly in high traffic areas.

Eliminate Draughts and Save Money

According to the energy.gov website making the effort to seal air leaks in a draft house can result in a 20% saving on heating and cooling bills. Over time the effort taken to fix draughts in doors and windows should result in lower bills. The Energy Saving Trust is also keen for homeowners and businesses to look to eliminate draughts in buildings. If ‘draughts are uncontrolled: they let in too much cold air and waste too much heat’. They estimate that draught-proofing could save up to £35 per year.
